USA TRIATHLON EXTENDS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING OPPORTUNITIES TO ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION RACES.
USA Triathlon announces that all sanctioned triathlons for the next three weeks in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico will qualify the top 33% athletes in each age group for the 2016 Age Group National Triathlon Championship (Olympic Distance) in Omaha, Nebraska on August 13.
All USAT sanctioned triathlons qualify the top 10% in each age group to Age Group Nationals, except for regional championships at the Olympic distance which qualify the top 33%. As a consequence of the cancellation of the July 10th Boulder Peak Triathlon, which was the 2016 Rocky Mountain regional championship, the enhanced 33% qualifying opportunity reserved for regional championships has been extended to all remaining July 2016 triathlons sanctioned by USAT within the Rocky Mountain Region.
These events are:
Toughman Utah (Provo UT)
Rocky Mountain State Games Triathlon (Colorado Springs CO)
USAT will contact athletes who qualify for Age Group Nationals under the enhanced criteria after receipt and confirmation of race results from the events listed above. Athletes attempting to qualify for Age Group Nationals at these events should encourage the event director to promptly submit results to USAT for processing.
The Rocky Mountain Regional council thanks the USA Triathlon national office for replacing Age Group Nationals qualifying opportunities that were lost at Boulder Peak. The regional council will not conduct an alternate Olympic distance regional championship in 2016, but will continue to hold its long distance triathlon championship on August 21, 2016 in conjunction with Toughman New Mexico.
