Ironman Boulder Participant Killed in Collision

A vehicle struck and killed a bicyclist participating in the Ironman Boulder race on U.S. 36 north of Boulder on Sunday morning, officials said.

Michelle Walters, 34, of McCook, Neb., was struck shortly before 10 a.m., about a mile west of the intersection of U.S. 36 and North Broadway, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

U.S. 36 north of Boulder had not been closed to vehicle traffic during today’s race, although it was, for a time, during the investigation into the crash.

Memorial 5k run/walk in Honor of Michelle Walters

Dizzy GOATz of Southwestern Nebraska will be holding a Memorial 5k run/walk in memory of Michelle Walters, the athlete killed during IRONMAN Boulder on Sunday August 7th.
