Chilly Cheeks Duathlon Series – Race #3

Denver

The Duathlon Series

The Chilly Cheeks Duathlon Series is composed of 3 events – each with a different format. Each race is comprised of approximately 4 miles of running on paved roads, bike paths, and dirt trails. There will also be approximately 10 miles of paved cycling in each race.

Keep in mind, this is a winter event, and although the entire bike course is paved, there may be snow, sand, and/or ice along the route. This website will be updated approximately 2 days before each event (no emails will be sent) with the course conditions to assist you in choosing your bike and shoes for the event. The photos on this page will give you an idea of the variety of conditions you may experience in this series.

Races will be contested regardless of conditions – and if the weather warrants we may change the distances, course, or format of the race accordingly, so no grumbling – this is all about having fun in the winter.

Chilly Cheeks #3 will start with a 10 mile non-drafting paved bike ride. Riders will go off in groups of 5-10 at 1 minute intervals. Starting groups will be assigned as entries are received. The race will finish with a 4-mile road and dirt-trail run.

The event will start and finish at the Hobie Hill area, near the West Entrance to the park. Directions: From I-25 Take Exit 199 (Belleview) and turn East on Belleview. Drive approximately 1.5 miles to Dayton (there is a stoplight). Turn left on Dayton and drive approximately 0.5 miles. The park entrance will be on your right. Parking will take place at the Hobie Hill parking lot. Once you are inside the park, signs will direct you to the Hobie Hill lot. Once Hobie Hill has filled, additional parking will be available at the Marina, just 200 yards beyond Hobie Hill. All vehicles entering the park will be charged a $9 park entrance fee, so car-pooling is encouraged. Vehicles displaying a valid Colorado State Parks annual pass will not be charged. Bib and timing-chip pick-up will take place on race morning only beginning at 8:00am. 2017 KHMTT Series

Cherry Creek State Park

The 2017 Series consists of seven (7) individual time trials on consecutive Wednesday evenings.

Permitted by USA Cycling – Permit:  2017-545

First racer starts at 4:30 pm, final racer at approximately 7:20 pm

In the event that a race is cancelled due to inclement weather the make-up date will be May 24th.

The race series KHMTT is a fundraiser for BRAC and the Cancer Fitness Institute in memory of Karen Hornbostel.

In  2016 the KHMTT took a giant leap of faith and provided full series registration racers the ability to purchase an Colorado State Parks Annual pass with the Water Basin fee at a discounted cost. For us to break even, we had to sell at least 50 passes, otherwise we would lose a fair amount of money.   We sold 170 passes, making it very successful!  Yes, we plan on offering the passes in 2017, at the same discounted price of $58.00.  (Normally $73.00)

Barkin’ Dog Duathlon

Start the 2017 Multisport Season at the Barkin’ Dog!

This is the 19th year for the Barkin’ Dog Duathlon, Colorado’s largest duathlon, and consistently the one of the largest duathlons in the Western United States. The race spent it’s first seven years in the small town of Keenesburg, just north and east of Denver, but we outgrew that location and made the move to Cherry Creek State Park in 2006.

This race serves as the unofficial summer season opener for Colorado multisport athletes, attracting some of the top pro’s in the country as well as a whole slew of first-time multisport athletes trying something different. If you can finish a 5K, you can complete a duathlon!

Participants can choose from the standard 5K Run, 30K Bike, 5K Run event or the short course which challenges participants with a 1.2 Mile Run, 11 Mile Bike, 5K Run.

We hope to see you at the Barkin’ Dog on May 7th!
